Not Forever

How easy it is to miss the big picture.
From the pandemic, I learned how much I appreciate being outdoors. From the war in Ukraine, I learned how valuable peace is. From the energy crisis, I learned how comfortable we’ve had it until now.
And yet, for all of these challenges, one giant truth has been staring me in the face all along and I’ve been completely blind to it.
I just learned that someone very close to me has cancer. It’s already spreading.
The biggest lesson is that nobody is around forever. I take the people in my life for granted. Instead, I should be immensely grateful for their presence. Every one of them is a gift from heaven.
How could I miss this simple truth?
